When I was a little girl, I was very skinny, anemic, had lots of headaches, allergies and was often sick. I was put on iron pills. Frequently, I had sore throats and was always put on penicillin. Eventually I put on some weight and by the time I graduated from college, I found myself unhappy with the way I looked. I quickly learned that if I drank coffee, it would upset my stomach and stop me from eating.
Over the years, just like many of us, I was on and off many diets. I became a lifetime member of Weight Watchers, was on the Scarsdale diet, Grapefruit diet, South Beach Diet, Atkins, counting calories diet, low fat - you name it. Each time I would lose 10-20 pounds and in a month or two the weight would come back, with an additional 5 pounds.
Why? Because I never changed my lifestyle.
In 2011, I got fed up with myself. I was very stressed and overweight. My job as a CPA was very stressful. I was taking 3 blood pressure pills, a very high dose of statin for high cholesterol, prescription meds for acid reflux and metformin because I was pre-diabetic. On top of that, I take medication for a little known disease called Trigeminal Neuralgia.
I set out on a mission. My mission was to get healthy.
By making small changes in the way I ate and by getting regular exercise I lost 55 pounds. I am off all of the blood pressure pills and off the statin for high cholesterol. I've dropped the acid reflux medication and am no longer pre-diabetic. I got healthy! The bonus... I got to buy new clothes. I went from size 16 to a size 8.
