Traveling and Eating Healthy
by Arlene Groden Cohen
I have been traveling a lot this summer. My latest adventures were Nashville and New Orleans. In a couple of weeks I am off to New York for my High School reunion. Eating healthy while you are away from home is always a big challenge especially when you eat Gluten Free like I do.
The thing to remember is to pack as many snacks as you can. Even when flying I take things like cereal, gluten free crackers, bananas, cashews, almonds, pecans, blueberries and (my favorite food in the whole world) avocados. You always want to have your staples with you so you aren't grabbing highly salted and sugary snacks.
If you are traveling by car, do yourself a favor, bring bottled water with you. Buying water at your hotel will cost you double. Also, when I am in the car I take a cooler with me and fill it with hummus, hard boiled eggs, fruits and cut up vegetables. You can even take cheese.
